With the fantastic spur both in industry and in economy in China, the number of people who own private cars is on the rise. Some people have bought cars of their own, and others are planning to buy cars. But there have been two quite different views on this phenomenon.

Some claim that there are many advantages brought about by cars. First, the automobile industry provides jobs for countless workers and strong support for other industries. Second, if conditions permit, owning a car can make us work more efficiently. Finally, life will become more convenient. A car allows one to move freely and with a car there is no need to wait for the bus in the cold or under the burning sun.

However, others strongly object to the increase in developing private cars. They hold that automobiles will give rise to a series of problems. In the first place, as more and more cars are produced and run in the street, a large volume of poisonous gas will be given off, polluting the atmosphere and causing actual harm to the health of people. Next, private cars contr123te to traffic congestion so greatly that the advantages gained in comfort and freedom are often cancelled out by the frustration caused by traffic jams. The last problem is the increasing number of car accidents that have killed and will kill a lot of people in a friction of a second.

In my opinion, although automobiles have been playing a vital part in the daily activities of our society, they also bring us numerous troubles such as more serious environmental pollution, more traffic accidents and more 123rgy consumption. They drink up huge amounts of fuel and throw out huge amounts of pollutants. Traffic accidents kill thousands and thousands of people each year and cripple more. Jams waste our precious time. Therefore I am against developing private cars.

In some countries, teenagers have jobs while they are still students. Do you think this is a good idea? Support your opinion by using specific reasons and details.

In many countries it is common for teenagers to take part-time jobs while they are still in high school, while in other societies this is virtually unheard of. In the latter situation, students are expected to spend all of their time on their studies and consider schoolwork their "job". In my opinion, students benefit more from a more balanced lifestyle, which may include working at a part-time job. Therefore, I believe that it is a good idea for students to work while studying.

While it is true that a students most important goal must be to learn and to do well at his studies, it does not need to be the only goal. In fact, a life which consists of only study is not balanced and may cause the student to miss out on other valuable learning experiences. In addition to bringing more balance to a students life, part-time work can broaden his range of experience. He will have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and will be faced with a wider variety of problems to solve. Furthermore, work helps a student to develop greater independence, and earning his own pocket money can teach him how to handle his finances. Finally, a part-time job can help a student to develop a greater sense of responsibility, both for his own work and for that of the team he works with.

For all of these reasons, I firmly believe that most students would benefit from taking a part-time job while they are in high school. Of course, they must be careful not to let it take up too much of their time because study is still their primary responsibility. In sum, living a balanced life is the best way to be successful.

Faced with the question whether it is worthwhile to spend a year or two voluntee?ring in western China, many college students would probably shake their heads, seeing it as a waste of valuable learning time. However, I will give an affirmative answer without hesitation, because this experience can apparently benefit us in many ways.

First, it is a great opportunity for us to apply the knowledge we have acquired at college. Different from temporary part-time jobs, a longer volunteer work experience is truly fulfilling and rewarding. As English majors, we can learn to use and teach the language effectively in real classes; as education majors, we can experiment with those textbook theories in helping manage a school or instruct the younger; those who study engineering can take this chance to turn their ideas and skills into running machines, new bridges and broad roads. From this experience, we will better understand our schoolwork and even build up considerable expertise in our chosen fields.

Second, we can gain a great sense of satisfaction by making contributions in an underdeveloped region. Right now, the western China is suffering from both the short?age of resources and that of talents in its course of development. If we can step into the needed roles by simply sacrificing a year or two, we will be able to make some differ?ence to the situation as a whole. Imagine how proud you will be when telling your fami?ly and friends how you have taught the illiterate to read, and how you have helped to change the look of a backward town. Compared with the great sense of pride you feel, a years time is just a small price to pay.

Third,we can establish a deep friendship with local people. On the one hand, if you truly love and help the people you work with, they naturally love and help you back. Take a senior I know for example, who served two months as a teacher in a dry northwestern town. During the period of water shortage, both his students and their parents voluntarily kept water for him, sometimes despite their own need. Recalling his days there, he said they were not easy but he could not help missing them. Probably many volunteers would feel the same as him. While we are giving care, support and help, we often get back more including a lasting friendship.

Therefore,I will readily sign up to volunteer in the western China despite various challenges I may meet. Think of the differences we can make there and the changes this experience can make to us, why not walk out of the ivory tower and step onto the promising land of our country?

When we go on a business trip,we will be faced with the choice between traveling by train or by plane. Before making the right choice,we had better make a close comparison and contrast of them.

First of all,a train will take us to our target railway station. Also,a plane will take us to the target airport.Second,in a train we can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the countryside.Likewise,in a plane we can command a good view of fields, buildings, mountains and even clouds below.Despite their similarities, traveling by train or by plane are also different in the following aspects.First,a train ticket is less expensive. Most of us can afford it.However,a plane ticket is about twice as expensive as a train ticket. Most of us grudge paying for it.Besides, it is safer to travel by train. If the train gets into trouble,we may survive by jumping out of it.On the contrary,if we travel by plane,we have to ask God to bless us.Finally,it takes us longer time to travel by train than by plane.

Therefore,it depends which transportation tool we should choose. If we just want to save money,we will travel by train;but if we want to save time,we should turn to the plane.

What Kind Of Life To Live-Realistic Or Romantic?

There has always been an argument between the young and the old about what kind of life to live-realistic or romantic. Young people tend to think real think that real lofe is as dramatic and fascimating as it is in the novels and movies while more experiened adults think this na?ve daydream is certain to be broken by later experiences and everyone should learn to get used to the dull routine of his everydy life.

However, there are some inadequacies in the opinions on the part of both sides. Life will be unimaginable if everything we do is only for realistic purpose, and the same is true if what we do everyday is just to enjoy ourselves. So it’s not difficult for us to see that neither way can ensure a happy life.

In my opinion, a real happy life can never be separated from either of the two ways. On the one hand, let’s enjoy life-enjoy the excitement of sports. On the other, let’s not forget our work. Happy life can never go without hard work.

Some people are committed to their dreams and work hard to achieve their goals. What is guiding them is a kind of illusion. Some people think that illusion is good for success while others argue that it is not so good because it may get people unrealistic. As far as I am concerned, illusion is necessary in our life only if it is encouraging and realistic.

There are several reasons.First of all, there is power in illusion. The illusion can lead people to the path they want to go on and it gives us passion. We need to live each moment wholeheartedly, with all our senses so that we can find pleasure in the fragrance of backyard garden, the crayoned picture of a six-year-old, and the enchanting beauty of a rainbow. The illusion can be enthusiastic love of life that puts sparkle in our eyes, a lilt in our steps and smoothes the wrinkles from our souls.

Secondly, we are born with wide-eyed, enthusiastic wonder as anyone knows who has ever seen an infant’s delight at the jingle of keys or the scurrying of a beetle. It is this childlike wonder and illusion that gives enthusiastic people such a youthful air, no matter how old they are. For example, the famous cellist Pablo Casals would start his day by playing Bach. Music, for him, was an elixir that made life a never-ending adventure. As author and poet Samuel once wrote, “Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.”

Lastly, people with illusions also love what they do, regardless of money or power or title. If we cannot do what we love as a full-time career, we can as do a part-time vocation, like the head of state who paints, the nun who runs marathons and the executive who handcrafts furniture. We cannot afford to waste tears and energy and time on “might-have-beens”. We need to turn the tears into sweat as we go after “what-can-be”.

To sum up, God gives each bird its food, but he does not throw it into its nest. Wherever you want to go, just cherish your precious illusion and let your dream be realized.

I like the summer holidy so much. I look forward to summer holiday every year. Last summer, I went to Shen zhen for my holiday, which is also a city of seashore like Haikou. I enjoyed having a walk along the beach after supper or having a swim in the afternoon. The sky is blue, the air is fersh.

Wherever you go, You can always see the green trees, the neat grasses and the colourful flowers. They were really wonderful. Shen Zhen has a lot of tall buildings. And it is a modern city.

I am planning to spend my summer holiday on sports this year. Playing basketball is always my favourite, so some of my classmates and I will form a small team and play basketball together. Sometimes we may have a match against some other teams and I do enjoy the sense when we win the game.

If you ask me what my favourite summer holiday will be like, traveling aound the only answer. I hope that one day I could meet different people and vist different places of interest.

Most of us can learn how to do something simple on our own with just a set of instructions. However, to learn about something more complex, it’s always best to have a teacher.

Teachers bring with them varied and useful backgrounds. They’ve been trained to teach individuals in different ways depending on their style. For instance, omen students learn better by discussing a topic. Others learn more by writing about it. Teachers can help students learn in the way that’s best of each student. A textbook or a manual can only give you one way of learning something. Plus they’re only as helpful as your ability to understand them. A good teacher can adapt her teaching to your needs.

Teachers help you focus on what you’re learning. If you’re learning something by yourself, it’s easy to become distracted, and go on to other activities. Teachers keep your attention on the subject. They also approach a subject logically, taking it one step at a time. On your own, it’s tempting to skip parts of the learning process you think you don’t need. That can binder your ability to really understand the subject.

Learning a subject on your own is a very narrow way of learning. You can only use the information you get from the textbook. With a teacher, you get the information in the written materials as well as the teacher’s own knowledge of the topic. Teachers can also provide extra materials to broaden the scope of what you’re learning.

There’s nothing wrong with studying on your own, and a learner can always benefit from some quiet study. For the best possible learning, though, a good teacher is the biggest help you can have.

Laozihao is not only the commercial phenomenon, but also the history in miniature. It is popular for its unique arts and crafts. However, some of these enterprises have become outdated or are operating in red dueto a rigid conventional thinking, loose management or overstaffing.People have different opinions about whether the Laozihao should be preserved or not. As far as I’m concerned, the critical point is not only toremain but also to preserve and develop the Laozihao. Laozihao is important to the traditional culture andthe national commerce. As a time-honored brand, Laozihao enjoys the extensive reputation in the society. It is of golden opinion, and carries the trust of the customers. Moreover, it is the precise non-material cultural heritage. The city without Laozihao will lose the unique scene as a famous historic city.

In the market-oriented economic society, Laozihao satisfies the emotional need of people for the national culture. But it cannot be denied that now Laozihao are paying their way. Affected by the market-oriented economy, Laozihao are taking the shine off. The out-dated concepts, old-fashioned products and backward management are all the factors for the fall of Laozihao. As for the fact, we should not only remain the Laozihao, but also have to preserve and develop it.

First, the support system of Laozihao should be built up. The advanced technology, automatic intellectual property rights and modern organization are key points in the development of Laozihao. On the basis of keeping its traditional features, it should work out new products, which are more suitable for the modern society, so as to extend the market share. Second, Laozihao should have the priority in the policy and finance. It is the most important embodiment of a historic city. So In the urban planning, the original locationshould be preserved. And the government would finance them to improve their technology and equipments. Third, it is suggested that Laozihao should be preserved as the intangible assets of the country. In this way, Laozihao will do good to the cultural landscape as well as develop its own commercial function.

In conclusion, Laozihao is the carrier of the traditional culture and arts. It’s a symbol of the nationalhistory. We should preserve it and use effective ways to develop it. It is not only the demand of the market, but also the requirement of the culture.

  The Temptation of Pyramid Selling

Many years ago, a popular word comes to people’s ears, it is the new illegal industry, it called pyramid selling. The media exposed the industry, it was a selling group which worked on the illegal selling, once people joined in the group, there was no way for them to get rid of it. It is people’s greed that makes them hard to resist the temptation of pyramid selling.

Pyramid selling is made up of a group, they implant people the idea that they can be rich by selling the products. It sounds ridiculous, but the group finds a way to persuade people to believe it, they know people can’t resist the great temptation from money, so they always succeed in cheating people.

Once people get into the group, they can’t flee from the group. Some realize the fact, they can’t get rid of the group without the help with policeman, the other who are willing to work in the group have been washed brain, they abandon their families and never go home.

  一旦人们进入到这个团体,他们就无法脱离这个团体。一些人意识到了这个事实,他们只有在警察的帮助下才能脱离,另外一些人愿意工作,他们已经被同化了,抛弃了家庭,从来不回家。

Pyramid selling is very dangerous, people must not greedy, the fortune is gained by hard working.

  传销是很危险的,人们不能贪心,财富是通过努力工作来获得的。

The publication of college rankings each year would draw increasing attention from interested people. Those people include reporters, college administrators and faculty, alumni, parents, and high school students.Together with other popular guidebooks, college rankings feature data on the overall universities and colleges in China.Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet once stated that “what is in a name? That which we calla rose.By any other name would smell as sweet.”We can ask a similar question over the college rankings:what is in a number?

Some scholars warn that college rankings use objective measures to evaluate subjective considerations so that they can only tell a prospective college student a limited amount. In my opinion,we should take several rankings into consideration to evaluate a specific college’s place in the ranking, instead of only relying on one ranking.

Firstly,to decide whether college rankings give a college a fair shake,it is crucial to look at the methodology of the ranking system. While one system may conclude peer assessment, retention rate, facultyresources, student selectivity, and financial resources, another system may lay its emphasis on the number of famous alumni, the student evaluation of professors and the evaluation of college students.Accordingly, the same university may rank top in one publication of one ranking system, but be reduced to theaverage university category in another ranking system.

Generally speaking, based on the same criteria, the rankings can objectively reflect the strength of a certain university, but it can not tell the whole story ofa college.Besides, many universities are characterized by their unique disciplines.

We can not simply reach conclusion that a music and drama university is worse than a technological university according to their places in the ranking system.

Secondly, college rankings are likely to be manipulated, which inevitably reduces their authority and trustability. As a president from a famous university revealed, one college ranking compiling organizationonce visited him and insinuated that if the president agreed to sponsor their organization, they could put the college in higher places of ranking.

According to some news report, this phenomenon is not rare. Many universities have been invited to “corporate”with some ranking compiling organizations. Can we still believe that college rankings reflect the strength of some universities when some universities sponsor the compiling in exchange of higher places in the ranking?

In a word, college rankings,an important means to evaluate universities, are based on different methodologies. As one methodology only focuses on certain aspects of higher learning,we have to consult with several ranking systems and then we can find out the whole story of a university. We should also be cautious about the manipulation behind the scenes.

Along with the advance of science and technology, electronic products, such as computer,MP3,and cell phone and so on. Among them, cell phone exerts a big influence on our daily life.It has dramatically changed our way of communication and socializing. As to its virtues and defects about cell phone, peoples opinion are widely varied.

Recently,a professor named Baron conducted a survey among 2000 college students and consulted their attitudes toward cell phone. Conclusion was reached that the biggest advantage of cell phone is that it can connect the users with other people through short message, which is very convenient compared with traditional letter writing and also very cheap with the telephone call taking into consideration. As every coin has two sides, the very virtue of the cell phone is also the biggest disadvantage, which makes other people can easily fine them with a call even a message.Cell phone are gradually intruding upon the private space of people.

For the most part,I agree with professor Baron s conclusion. Let me first illustrate its virtues. It indeed save much time and efforts when we want to find a helping hand.It also shortens the distance between people,no matter how far two people are, they can easily get in touch with each other through a call and tell each other about what funny or sad things they come upon. The most obvious advantage of short message is that it makes people familiar and intimate. Sometimes, people feel awkward to say something to others through face to face communication or making a phone call, the short message come to rescue, all the discomfort will be diminished for the messages covering the emotional effect. Messages are very popular and prevailing when a festival or delightful event comes. People can pass their blessing and wished with decent to others, even they are just nodding acquaintances.

For its defects,it is really annoying. Scan messages and harassing calls have gained access to us. We have to take time and energy to tackle these problems. And whenever we want to have a break or do some interesting things,we would be interrupted by phone calls or messages. Therefore, some people put forward their solutions that we could turn off the phone when we deem it is necessary or change the situation model of the phone to unreachable. These solutions really bring consolation to us,but they are very hard to apply. Suppose you are working for a company and yearning for promotion and increase in wages, you are hardly dare to do those things in fear a loss of big opportunity. Even if you are just an ordinary full time housewife, you are also incapable of doing that, simply because you have a large family to take care. Thus a new term was coined recently- cell phone syndrome, which refers to people can not live without cell phone. Some people even suffer from it that they have to force themselves to get away from cell phones.

Though a lot of complaints about cell phone has emerged, its advantages, from my point of view, are far outweigh its disadvantages. Just as a saying goes that there is no perfect man on earth,so does cell phone. Thanks to cell phone,we are launch into a more efficient information change age. Every respect of our life are greatly benefited form it and it will uncertainly bring us to a brighter future.

  专八作文高分 12

No matter what decision you make you have to be responsible for your choice. Your choice procures you a sense of orientation,or more specially a sense of mission. And only a strong mission may enable one to accomplish greatness. Caesar of the ancient Roman Empire was urged by his ambition “I came,I saw,I conquered.” And became an unrivaled empire builder in the history of Rome.

John Milton, stimulated always by his ambition that aimed at writing some “mighty lines” which England would unwillingly forget, had in due time secured his position as the second Shakespeare in the history of English literature. In the second place, ambition can bring one’s potentials to the full. Ambition may well serve as a catalyst activating one’s dormant potentials. Without ambition one’s potentials will remain slumbering like a dormant volcano. A case in point is Ms Zhang Haidi,a Chinese Helen Keller. It was her ambition to be a useful person has turned the almost paralyzed Zhang Haidi into a well-accomplished figure whose achievements would dwarf those of some normal people aim at the sun, though,at worst, they may probably land on the moon. Influential as it is upon us,ambition must be channeled in the right direction. If wrongly directed, one’s ambition may bring havoc on him and others.

Hitler, whose ambition was to conquer Europe by whatever evil means, finally turned him into a demon. It was this demon that almost cast Europe into an unfathomable abyss of anguish and suffering. Another case is Macbeth whose ambition was to become the king of Scotland. However, his ambition was materialized by the murder of King Duncan. Consequently, unbearable guilt and psychological agony drove him to his tragic doom. To sum up,ambition can benefit us tremendously if wisely and correctly channeled, otherwise it may ruin others and ourselves. A poet says: life can be bad; life can be good; life can be dirty; life can be sad,; life can even be painful.

In my mind’s eye,a person can make his life beautiful, meaningful and rewarding and stand out as a respectable personage if he is motivated by a well-orientated ambition.

Due to the Grand College Enrollment Plan, thenumber of university graduates has been on theincrease since the central government startedimplementing the plan. Though the plan helpsimprove our national quality,it creates pressure forthe job markets. With so many collegestudentscoming out at a time, many graduates havedifficulties in finding suitable jobs. In order to create more jobs, the government encouragescollege graduates to work in villages of 28 provinces and regions with a view that ruraladministration willbe strengthened at the same time. As a result, tens of thousands collegegraduates have been appointed as village officials in the rural areas. It appears that this planhelps alleviate the pressure caused by graduate employment, but I do not think the plan willwork in the long run.

Firstly, after serving as village officials in the rural areas for two years, the majority of thosecollege village officials will start to look for jobs in the job market again, aggravating thepressure of the job market. Some may argue that the number of those village officials whoenter the job market again is balanced by the number of new college graduates who would beappointed as village officials. The truth is that while those students have spent two years in therural areas, they do not gain enough experience in the corporate world and are likely to forgetwhat they have learnt in college. In this sense, they are not guaranteed to find decent jobsagain. Besides, when working in the rural areas, these students with higher degrees arerespected by village people, and are likely to get accustomed to feeling superior to peoplearound them. One can imagine they would probably be frustrated when they work with thosewho hold the same college degrees or even higher degrees.

Secondly, when the supply of college graduates and the demand of our society are unbalanced, the imbalance can be obtained by increasing available jobs or decreasing the supply ofcollege graduates, which means the reduction of college enrollment. Given the fact that theeconomy slows down in the recent, it is difficult to create more jobs. While offering good termsfor graduates such as well-paid salary and residential certificate guarantee, the governmentcan create more jobs in the short term, but does not provide long-term remedy. In this sense, the plan does not solve the fundamental imbalance between the supply and the demand ofcollege graduates.

In sum, the plan to encourage college graduates to work in the rural areas can only provide atemporary remedy for the job market. I think the government should recognize thefundamental imbalance and find the way back toelite education.

Although the grand ceremony of Oscar was over this year, the attention and discussion linger in the Chinese movie munity and out. Some insiders hold that following global trends is the only way to develop China’s film industry. Others insist, however, that the Oscars are simply one the many awards that Americans like to crown themselves. Domestic films should maintain their distinct flavors. As a movie fan myself, I think we should strive for it to gain international recognition.

Firstly, the Oscars Award is an international recognition in terms of both artistic performance and box office revenue. With live broadcast in 50 languages, it plays a huge role in shaping the global film industry. It is no wonder that so many people around the world pay much attention to it. The reality is that Hollywood movies account for more than 90 percent of global market shares-this has inevitable worldwide impact. Obviously, the Oscars Award has bee something that we can not afford to ignore it.

Moreover, we live in a global, multicultural world where different cultures interact. China’s movie industry needs to realize it and sharpen its petitive edge. If Chinese films are to make a global impact, then movie production, distribution and marketing organization need improving. Chinese films should adjust to satisfy the variety of social demands. The introduction of foreign successful formulas and technology is a must for Chinese film industry. It is parochial to think that China can only use its national characteristics to define domestic movies. Conservatism will hinder the progress of film industry. If China does not develop its film industry through embracing innovative multiculturalism, Chinese movies will have little opportunity to gain a share in the international market.

Last but not least, the Hollywood films also conform to specific cultural demands. Take this year’s Academy Awards as an example, nominated movies include both high-cost productions like The Lord of the Rings and subtle, more moderate budgeted projects like Lost in Translation, these films suggest that Hollywood movies maintain a basic balance in keeping the style of its own and absorbing diverse cultures. Hence, the Chinese filmmakers should spare no efforts to present original domestic films to foreign viewers. We will be left behind if we stick to the so-called orthodox. For instance, Couching Tiger Hidden Dragon was acted by Chinese actors and through cultural icons, but actually its style and structure of the movie all conform to a Hollywood formula. This partly explains why it appeals to a wider range of audiences from different cultural background.

In a word, the Oscars are very important to Chinese filmmakers. Nominations are a kind of approval by international peers of their achievements. As China’s market improves, its movie industry will get stronger and will eventually cash in on the Oscars.

As one famous professor stated,“One can onlyappreciate the beauty of ancient Chinese literaturethroughthe complex Chinese characters.” What theprofessor wants to convey is that complex Chinesecharacters are manifestation of traditional Chineseaesthetics. However, since the foundation of thePRC,China began to adopt simplified Chinesecharacters,so that illiteracy can be more easily eliminated.

Undoubtedly, the introduction of simplified Chinese characters contributes to China’smodernization. Sowhen a member of the national committee of CPPCC proposed that weshould return to Complex Chinese Characters, ongoing debates ensued with vehemence.Personally,it is impractical to return to Complex Chinese Characters, but individuals canvoluntarily make efforts to know Complex Chinese Characters.

Firstly, since the simplified characters have played an indispensable role in people’s lives, wewill have to pay the price if we return to Complex Chinese Characters. To be specific, education administration has to bear the burden of changing textbooks; the corporateworld will have to change their advertisements, contracts and other documents; thegovernment has to change their seals, documents, agreements and treaties with foreignnations. Of course there are other costs resulting from the return to Complex ChineseCharacters. But the question lies in who are willing to bear the costs. In some impoverishedareas, many families can not afford to receive education; when the global economy is reducedto a slow-down,the corporate world is making efforts to cut costs. Therefore,I perceivethe policy of returning to Complex Chinese Characters will trigger oppositions from the public.

Secondly, considering the amount of complex Chinese characters, can all the Chinese learnto recognize them overnight? While students have the time to learn Complex ChineseCharacters, what about people in other domains? The corporate world can not afford tointerrupt their business, government officials and civil servants can not be distracted fromrunning our country, doctors and nurses have to be at work in case that emergency arises,to list three typical domains that will be affected by the policy.

Admittedly, returning to Complex Chinese Characters will help preserve traditional Chineseculture. WhenChina becomes more involved in the world, western cultures, especiallyAmerican culture, have influenced Chinese people at an unprecedented level. Many youngpeople look to learning foreign culture as fashionable. However, the obvious benefits cannot make us embrace the policy with open arms, for we should also bear in mind whether thepolicy is feasible.
